The Atlantic breakers at Trawmore Strand, Keel, Achill Island make it a haven for surfers and other watersports enthusiasts. Surf boards and wet suits can be hired on the beach at Keel. Trawmore (Trá Mór), a 3km long strand, is an EU Blue Flag beach in recognition of the cleanliness of its waters and the provision of lifeguards during warmer months. At the southern end of Trawmore Strand are the cliffs of Minaun (shown in picture), which rise to a peak of 466m. |
