Ireland pictures : Gallery 1 : Minaun and Keel lake, Achill Island
This photograph in Achill 24/7's series of Ireland pictures was taken from the eastern slopes of Slievemore, Achill Island, above the deserted village. It shows the lowland area between the villages of Keel (An Caol) (to the right, unseen) and Dookinelly (Dumhach Cinn Aille) (in the centre of this picture), and the magnificent cliffs of Minaun at the eastern end of Trawmore Strand (Trá Mór). Keel lake, seen in the centre of this photograph, is the largest of Achill's many loughs and tarns, was a favoured fishing haunt for the American artist Robert Henri. In the far distance of this picture, beyond the tip of Minaun, can be seen Clare Island. |
