Ireland pictures : Gallery 1 : Keel strand, Achill Island
This image in our series of Ireland pictures shows Trawmore Strand and the village of Keel, Achill Island. Keel and the village of Pollagh (seen to the left of Keel) were home to the artist Paul Henry for much of his time on Achill Island (1910-1919). In the distance is the mountain of Croaghaun, Achill's second highest peak at 668m. Trawmore strand, an EU Blue Flag beach, is some 2km long in total and its Atlantic breakers make it a popular destination for surfers. |
